Resolution on council hailed

The United Bodo People’s Organisation (UBPO), a civil society group and one of the core signatories to the Bodo pact, on Tuesday hailed the Assam cabinet for passing a resolution to create the Boro Kachari Autonomous Council.

The objective is to ensure socio-economic development and protect the language, culture and identity of the Boro Kacharis.

UBPO president Mihiniswar Basumatary and its general secretary Anil Basumatary welcomed the resolution passed in the state cabinet meeting.

They expressed hope that the bill for creation of the new council would be brought in the ongoing budget session.

The UBPO vows to protect constitutional rights of the Boro Kachari people living outside the BTC jurisdiction, their inclusive growth and development, proper implementation of the provision of Chapter X of the Assam Land Revenue Regulation Act, 1886, granting of land rights to the indigenous Boro Kachari people of Assam under the provision of Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Right) Act, 2006, among others.
