The Congress’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, to be led by Rahul Gandhi, will be launched from Thoubal district in strife-hit Manipur on Sunday as scheduled.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh told reporters in Imphal that the 66-day event was a “Yatra by a political party to protect the Constitution”, whose “four pillars” have allegedly taken a hit under the BJP-led central government.
“It is not an electoral Yatra. If the Bharat Jodo Yatra was about spreading love against an atmosphere of hatred, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will be highlighting economic, social and political injustices,” he said.
The choice of Manipur for the launch was “deliberate” because of what the strife-hit state has gone through in the past eight months, he said. “We want to convey our concern and connect hearts to build peace,” Ramesh said.
“Rahul ji will lead the Yatra and meet 20-25 people from all walks of life every day, hearing about what they have to say,” Ramesh said. The Congress brass will land in Manipur by a chartered flight on Sunday.
