Dibrugarh University in upper Assam on Thursday “permanently expelled” one more student and rusticated two more students for one year for their “involvement” in the November 27 ragging case in which a first-semester student suffered multiple injuries and is currently recuperating in a private hospital.
The decision will take the number of permanently expelled students to five, all of whom will now be also barred from taking admission to any university in India for the next three years.
The permanently expelled student has been identified as Kamal Krishna Kakoti, a first-semester mathematics department student, while the two rusticated students are Chitrabon Baruah, a third-semester BCA student, and Poban Gogoi, a first-semester B.Ed student.
On how could two first-semester students be involved in the ragging of their batchmate, a university official said they are “actually” seniors, pursuing their second master’s degree from the university.
The Dibrugarh University had on November 30 permanently expelled four students — Galab Deka, Kamaleshwar Chutia, Mousum Phukan (all third-semester M.Sc students) and Pusangkham Boruah (second-year diploma) — for their involvement in the ragging of first-semester M.Com student Anand Sharma.
