Along with the rest of the country, Id was celebrated with pomp and gaiety in Assam on Monday.

In Hojai, thousands of devotees joined the celebrations at Idgah Maidan, Nilbagan, Daboka, Udali, Jugijaan, Murajhar, Gopal Nagar, Kapasbari, Lanka and Lumding. The namaaz began at 7.30am and was led by imam Mamon Rasheed Alkashmi of Paachali Masjid, Hojai. After prayers for happiness, universal peace and harmony, the markets were thronged with children from nearby areas, enjoying the festivities.

Id-ul-Adha was also celebrated across Tinsukia district in an atmosphere of peace, amity and brotherhood. At Rupai Masjid, after prayers, the masjid committee announced a donation of Rs 50,000 to chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s flood relief fund.

In Tinsukia town, prayers were was offered at Marut Nandan Kanchan Park, Hijuguri Masjid, Lal Bangla Masjid, Naupukhuri Bari Masjid and several other places.

In Doomdooma, hundreds of Hindus took part in the festival. Id prayers were also offered at Talap Bali Bazar Masjid and Kakopathar Masjid.

“We offered prayers for the peace and prosperity of Assam and the entire country,” the imam of Sadar Patty Masjid told The Telegraph.

In Dibrugarh, the festival of sacrifice was celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour. To mark the day, people offered special namaaz in the morning at the mosques and Idgah grounds. Later they exchanged greetings.

The prayer session at Central Idgah, Graham Bazaar, at 8am saw the congregation of over 3,000 faithfuls who gathered to offer prayers, attired in their best. The Alhaj Jalaluddin Ahmed Idgah, Amolapatty, began their prayer session at 8.45am. It was attended by over 1,000 people. The local mosques also made arrangements for the special prayers in the morning hours. Hundreds of devotees attended the prayers, led by imams, who greeted the masses while praying for peace and prosperity.

In Hailakandi, Id celebrations were held at Sahabad madarsa campus for orphans and underprivileged children by 29 Assam Rifles. Sweets were distributed. The guests included Capt. Vivek Chauhan, Maulana Moniruddin Laskar, gaon panchayat president of Sahabad, Sarif Uddin, anchalik panchayat member Fojle Khoda Bilal and Ibadul Choudhury.

In Goalpara, nearly 7,000 people performed namaaz at Goalpara Idgah field under the supervision of Aanjuman-e-Khademul Islam. Mufti Abu Sayed, the imam, prayed for world peace and fraternity.

Id was also celebrated with pomp and gaiety in Kokrajhar. People performed special namaaz in Kokrajhar Bazar, Bhotgaon, Salakati, Jaipur, Fakiragram, Chilita and Gossaigaon. Bodoland Territorial Council chief Hagrama Mohilary extended Id greetings to the people of Assam.

Id-al-Adha was observed in Guwahati with the faithful turning up in hundreds in traditional attire for community namaaz at Maachkhowa, Islampur, Hijubari, Hatigaon, Fancy Bazar, Lakhtokia and Burra Masjid, among others. After namaaz in the morning, rituals were held, including a visit to kabarstan (graveyard) offering animal sacrifice. Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass and PCC president Ripun Bora were among those who greeted the masses on the occasion.

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu, too, extended his greetings and best wishes on the occasion.
