Tripura police on Wednesday destroyed 49,740 Yaba tablets, seized during different raids conducted in Sipahijala district last year.

Deputy inspector-general of police Gaurav Chakraborty told reporters here, “Today we burned 49,740 Yaba tablets, which were seized in December 2018 from Motinagar village under Sonamura police station of Sipahijala district. It is a regular process under Supreme Court guidelines, we are destroying them and it’s a regular process. The tablets are valued at Rs 25 lakh.”

In another incident, the police detained a 30-year-old woman near Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital for allegedly selling contraband items.

Battala police outpost officer-in-charge Sahadeb Bhow-mik said, “We raided the shops near the hospital and seized 80 Yaba tablets and 13 small containers of brown sugar. The accused has been identified as Amrita Das.”
