The Opposition Congress in Assam is contributing its bit in promoting Charaideo Maidam, the mound-burial system of the Ahom dynasty, recently included in the Unesco World Heritage List, at the “global stage”.
Assam PCC president Bhupen Kumar Borah said on Wednesday evening, after a trip to the hallowed site located in Charaideo district in Upper Assam, that he and the leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, have written to all the state PCCs and the chairman Indian Overseas Congress Sam Pitroda to visit the site.
The duo have also urged them to create “awareness” about the Maidams within
and outside India so that more and more tourists and students of history and archaeology visit the site and “know about our unique history and culture”.
The invites to all PCC chiefs and Pitroda were signed by Borah and Saikia, Borah said, adding we will also send invites to all our party MPs.
Charaideo Maidam is the third Unesco site from Assam but the first under the cultural category.
Saikia had a few days ago said: “This achievement (Unesco heritage site status) is indeed a significant milestone.”
