The Kamrup (metro) administration on Friday said the price of onions here was fixed at Rs 70 per kg for Friday and will drop further in the coming days.
“The price of onions at the source has decreased gradually and wholesalers here are selling the onions to retailers at a low price as the price at source is also low. However, some retailers are illegally charging more than the current rate. We are monitoring the whole market so that retailers cannot charge a higher price and will take action against those who charge more,” said additional deputy commissioner, Kamrup (metro), Bipul Kumar Das, here on Friday.
“The supply has picked up in the city and the prices will decrease more in the next few days. A retailer can take only Rs 6 per kilo higher than the wholesale price. If any retailers take more than that, action will be taken,” a source said.
