The petroleum industry Oil and Natural gas Commission (ONGC), Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and other public sector oil companies have contributed over Rs 1,000 crore to the Prime Minister CARE Fund to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ONGC was the top contributor with Rs 300 crore, followed by IOC chipping in Rs 225 crore along with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd Rs 175 crore and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd chipped in Rs 120 crore.

Petronet LNG Ltd contributed Rs 100 crore, gas-utility GAIL Rs 50 crore and Oil India Ltd another Rs 38 crore.

Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) has contributed Rs 25 crore, OIDB Rs 17 crore, MRPL Rs 2 crore, CPCL Rs 2 crore and Engineers India Limited Rs 1 crore. The employees of OIL have contrib-uted one day’s salary while the employees of GAIL have contributed two days’ salary to the fund.

NRL also contributed Rs 5 crore to the Assam government’s fund for corona fight.

Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan expr-essed gratitude for contribution of Rs 1,031.29 crore by the PSUs and other oil companies. In a tweet on Monday, he said he was proud to be part of a family which had shown social commitment during the biggest crisis in the country.
