The Northeast India Music Conference, a first-of-its-kind event, will be organised as part of the fourth Guwahati International Music Festival here on February 28 and 29.
The Eastern Beats Music Society (EBMS), a socio-cultural organisation working to promote the Northeast culture across Asia, will organise the event which will witness participation of some of the biggest stakeholders of the global music industry.
The stakeholders will provide mentorship to musicians from the region, selected through auditions in Dimapur, Shillong, Ukhrul and Aizawl in the last two months.
State-level auditions were held across the Northeast under a unique pan-Asia music project, Rhythms and Aromas of Northeast India, which was held in collaboration with the North Eastern Council and the Centre.
The Eastern Beats Music Society will also sign a few agreements with the participating organisations for speedy development of the region’s music industry.
“We will sign more than six memoranda of understandings with global giants of the music industry such as Rolling Stone India, Spotify, CD Baby and Indian Music Diaries among others which will greatly benefit the musicians and stakeholders of the Northeast music industry,” said EBMS founder secretary Aiyushman Dutta.
The Northeast India Music Conference, which is open to all musicians and those interested in understanding the music business, is expected to be a catalyst in developing the music ecosystem of the region. It is also expected to help musicians of the region understand the business part of music and the latest developments of the fields associated with it.
Speakers of the conference include artiste and talent management expert Tarsamme Mittal and Akshay Kapoor and Aditya Ghosh from Indian Music Diaries among others.
