The CPM and the Congress will not have an alliance in Tripura.

State Congress vice-president Tapas Dey said in Agartala on Monday that there was no possibility of an alliance in Tripura with the CPM. In Bengal, the CPM and the Congress are mulling an alliance but in Tripura there is no such possibility.

“We have requested the party high command to ensure there is no alliance between the CPM and the Congress in Bengal. However, if the party decides otherwise, depending on the national scenario, we shall welcome it. But there will no overt or covert alliance with the CPM in Tripura,” Dey said.

He alleged that during Left rule in Tripura, many Congress leaders were murdered.

“The Left started damaging Tripura. The BJP is finishing and perpetuating it. The Congress is open to an alliance with any anti-Left, anti-BJP political party here,” he added.

Dey also alleged that the CPM had failed to take the responsibility of an Opposition party.

“If we look at the CPM from 1972, they played a much stronger role as an Opposition compared to what we get to see now. They have failed to play their role as an Opposition in and out of the Assembly,” he said.

Tripura has two Lok Sabha constituencies — West Tripura and East Tripura. West Tripura goes to polls on April 11 and East Tripura on April 18.
