The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) on Friday said it is for the people of Nagaland to decide whether the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government is doing well or not, not for the Opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF).

Drawing its attention to the NPF’s statement rejecting the PDA government’s claim of achievements in the last two years in office on Wednesday, the NDPP, in a release issued by its media and communication committee, said the NPF, the oldest regional party in the Northeast, has not been able to bring itself to function as a responsible Opposition party.

“This only exposes the sorry state of affairs within their party fold,” it said.

It said the Opposition party was trying to flourish in its ideology of past glories by standing on principles of “I, me and myself”.

The NDPP said the NPF, amongst other issues, kept harping on the lack of infrastructure and roads in the state. This sadly only shows how the “egoistical mindset” of the Opposition party had blinded it to the huge improvements in the condition of the roads and other infrastructure in the last two tears after the PDA government took over.

“It is most incongruous that the NPF should talk of bad roads when, during its regime, had constructed wafer-thin asphalt roads in the state capital and during monsoon, video clips of the asphalt being washed away went viral, much to the chagrin of the populace,” the NDPP said.

It said the Opposition party should first open its eyes to the various people-centric programmes and activities that the PDA government has undertaken under the various branches of the government for the welfare and uplift of the people of the state.

The NDPP said the PDA government has been committed from day one to provide transparency, accountability and good governance to the people and has been endeavouring to do so for the past two years.

On backdoor appointments, the NDPP said the Opposition party forgot their record of such appointments, which is an open secret.

On the Naga political issue and on matters involving the human rights activists of the state, the NDPP expressed shock that the NPF would resort to these issues when its legislators are very much a part of the Joint Legislators Forum (JLF) on Naga Political Issue as well as members of the core group of the forum. It said all issues on the Naga political talks and related matters are discussed threadbare in the meetings of the JLF and its core group.

The NDPP said the NPF should first question its elected representatives on the discussions that occur during the JLF meetings before throwing false and malicious accusations at the PDA.
