The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted four accused in connection with the “attack on a military station” on Tuesday in Upper Assam carried out by the proscribed ULFA (I) in December.
This is the second chargesheet filed by the agency since May in connection with a “connected” attack carried out on November 22 by the rebel outfit on an army camp at Kakopathar in Tinsukia district. The six chargesheeted in the Kakopathar attack in May included ULFA (Independent) chief Paresh Baruah.
“Two motorcycle-borne cadres of the proscribed military outfit, ULFA (I), had lobbed grenades at the military station in Lichubari near Jorhat town on December 14, as part of a bigger conspiracy to target army establishments across the north-eastern state,” an NIA statement said on Tuesday.
NIA investigations in the Jorhat case RC-01/2024/NIA/GUW led to the arrest of three accused, identified as Biplab Baruah, Biraj Kachari and Achyut Gogoi. The trio were chargesheeted on Tuesday along with self-styled ULFA (I) captain Aicheng Asom (Abhijeet Gogoi), who is still absconding, the statement said.
