Myanmar on Tuesday sent a plane to Mizoram for the evacuation of its military personnel.

The Myanmarese troops had crossed over to Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district on Friday after armed pro-democracy forces captured their camps on Thursday.

A Mizoram official told The Telegraph that the 151 Myanmar soldiers, who had “entered into Mizoram on 29.12.2023 at Lawngtlai district were repatriated on Tuesday”.

“They were flown back in two in two flights in a Myanmar airforce plane from Lengpui airport (Mizoram) to Sittwe in the Rakhine state of Myanmar,” the official said, adding the flight time between Aizawl and Sittwe is about an hour.

Tuesday’s evacuation was the fourth from Mizoram since November 13. Myanmar junta has been suffering reverses after reverses along its border in the Chin state bordering Mizoram.

Fleeing Myanmar troops have entered Champhai, Siaha and Lwangtlai districts since November, bordering Myanmar which has been in a constant state of turmoil since the coup in 2021.

Of late, armed pro-democracy armed have become more than a handful for the junta in the border areas of Shan and Chin states, sources said.

Before the 151 evacuated on Tuesday, 104 Myanmar troops were evacuated in three batches in November from Mizoram by IAF choppers through Moreh (Manipur) bordering Tamu in Myanmar.

The official said the 151 Myanmar troops crossed over from Paletwa in China state to Lawngtlai where they were kept at the Parva camp of the Assam Rifles which guard the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram. From Lawngtlai they were shifted to Lunglei on December 31 and to Aizawl on January 1, he said.
