“We are in grief to have lost a dear one of our family. He was a man with a golden heart. He was not feeling well for sometime but his health deteriorated very fast in the last several days,” Dolly Goswami, Vicckey’s sister-in-law told The Telegraph from Mumbai over phone on Thursday.

The last rites will be performed in Mumbai on Friday.

The 50-year-old musician is survived by his Thai wife Sandra Steppe Goswami.

Vicckey left Assam in 1985 just after completing his class X exams. He studied at the Wilson College in Mumbai and continued practising music to cherish his dream of becoming a musician.

His mother Manju Baruah was one of the first artistes to perform at the All India Radio in Guwahati.

“He inherited the music from his family. Vicckey also played musical instruments with Bhupen Hazarika,” said Dolly.

Though he started to work in Mumbai with the big names, Vicckey maintained a low profile. He was probably the first Assamese to win a Zee Cine Award as a background score for Salman Khan-starrer Tere Naam. The list of nominations had included names like A.R. Rehman.

“He just kept doing really good work, which made the top industry professionals notice him and collaborate with him. His body of work is a testimony to that….His work made Vicckey one of the most sought after composers of the advertising industry, apart from composing background scores for mainstream films. We have lost a talent in the industry,” said Shahnaab Alam, a friend of Vicckey’s, who is also a producer in Mumbai.

Among others, Vicckey has won a RAPA Award and MTV awards. Another achievement was best advertisement film award at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival and Best Jingle Award for an Audi A7 commercial.

He has done the background score for Salman Khan-starrer Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha, Dil Maange More featuring Shahid Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Pa. He was the also composer of Idea Network’s signature tune and the Radio Mirchi signature track.

Alam, who hails from Guwahati, said Vicckey has composed a staggering more than 2,000 ad-jingles, including jingles for AirTel, Bajaj, Wonder Marbles, World Cup track, Pepsi, Audi, Wateen Network and Philips, among others.

“It’s unfortunate that people in Assam don’t know him much, but he’s probably one of the most popular musicians and music directors in Mumbai. He often used to tell me that our work will never be known in Assam, our homeland,” Alam added.
