Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday laid the foundation stone of a model residential school under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram, ministry of minority affairs, at Chagolia Part-I village under Golokganj Assembly constituency in Dhubri district.
Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said his government was working hard for restoring the lost glory of the district.
“This school will be a milestone for overall development of the district,” he said, adding that in coming days his government would inaugurate more educational institutes, including a women’s college, in Dhubri.
“When these institutions will be functional and produce more educated and disciplined youths, there will be an overall development of the district,” Sonowal added.
He also lauded the achievements of his government and claimed that the BJP-led state government had done a lot for development unlike the previous governments.
“The much-awaited Rupsi airport in lower Assam will be made operational in the beginning of 2020,” Sonowal said.
Commissioner and secretary to the government of Assam’s department of welfare of minorities and development, Gaurav Bothra, said the school would be built with an aim — “educational empowerment for students belonging to minority communities of the locality”.
The residential school has been set up at an estimated cost of Rs 30.42 crore and after completion it will have an academic and an administrative blocks, four students’ hostels with more 100 capacities each, four teachers and staff quarters, a principal’s bungalow, a guesthouse and a dining-cum-kitchen. a
Bothra said the school would be equipped with modern facilities and totally free with a capacity of total 560 seats out of which 33 per cent seats would be reserved for day-scholar girls.
