Committee secretary Sandeep Tulsyan told The Telegraph, “Our Puja pandal will depict the Adivasi culture. We will show how Adivasi people lived using natural things. They built their houses with bamboo and for utensils used things easily available in the jungles. We will highlight how they lived with limited things.”

The Puja committee, which receives recognition from the district administration every year for maintaining cleanliness, will focus on it this year too.

Tulsyan said, “People will find a new concept in our Puja this year. Our Durga idol will be made of clay and other eco-friendly material. We will not use any thing that causes pollution. Even for decoration, we will use natural items like bamboo and things mostly found in Adivasi homes. ”

He said, “We are expecting a higher footfall this year because the Bogibeel bridge opened last year and people will come from Dhemaji as well to enjoy Pujas in Dibrugarh.”

Tulsyan said last year their theme was a Buddhist monastery of Thailand.

“Inclement weather had hampered our work so far but now it has improved and we are expecting the good run to continue. We stress on perfection and want our Puja to catch people’s attention,” another member of the Puja committee said.

Dibrugarh deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha on Saturday held a meeting with the members of the town’s Puja committees and directed them to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and round-the-clock volunteers in the all the Puja mandaps.

More than 100 Pujas will be organised in Dibrugarh.
