Tripura police on Friday recovered a half-burnt body of a minor girl from the Durga Bari tea estate area in West district, only a few months after the body of a 22-year old girl was found in a similar way in the Rangacherra village of Sidhai Mohanpur, around 21km from here.
Speaking to The Telegraph on Friday, the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of New Capital Complex (NCC), Priya Madhuri Majumder, said, “The victim was only a 13-year-old girl. According to preliminary investigations, she went out of her home early in the morning to relieve herself but when she did not return, her parents started looking for her and found her body near their residence. We found her body just 100-150 metres from her residence,” the SDPO said.
She said the father of the victim runs a fast food shop from their home.
“The body was recovered and sent for post-mortem. An investigation is on,” she said.
The assistant inspector-general of police (law and order), Subrata Chakraborty, said they received a call from villagers informing them about the burnt body of the girl.
On the earlier case, he said, “the victim was identified as Manti Deb whose body was found in a paddy field near her home. According to investigation, it could be suicide following a love affair. We have detained one person in connection with the case. The person is an auto driver. An FIR has also been registered with the police by the victim’s family. We are till investigating the matter.”
