Arunachal Pradesh deputy chief minister Chowna Mein on Thursday reviewed the status of the 157.56km Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana road which connects Miao with Vijaynagar, the remotest tehsil of Changlang district, at his office here.

Addressing the meeting, which was attended by urban development and RWD minister Honchun Ngandam and local legislator Kamlung Mossang, Mein said the state government was concerned about the road connectivity to Vijaynagar.

The deputy chief minister said the state government would provide funds as gap funding for realignment/strengthening and improvement of the road. He, however, categorically called for judicious utilisation of the funds.

Officials said the Miao-Vijaynagar road was delayed due to realignment and diversion of the road to avoid the wildlife sanctuary (Namdapha National Park).

“The said route also passes through harsh topography thereby incurring huge additional expenses. However, using latest technology of road construction, the road along the swampy/marshy land has been constructed successfully,” the officials said.

It was also informed that the road is divided into a package of five parts out of which around 57 per cent has been completed so far.

It takes around seven to 10 days on foot through dense forests to reach the isolated region of Vijaynagar, which is nestled in the Himalayas along the India-Myanmar border.
