Meghalaya police in West Garo Hills busted a gang of abductors on Thursday, which included surrendered militants.

Seven armed miscreants belonging to the gang were arrested after they had abducted a person from Dobasipara on June 23, superintendent of police M.G. Raghavendra Kumar said.

The person, who was the owner-cum-driver of a Mahindra Pick up vehicle, was abducted near Romba Adingre village in West Garo Hills while returning from East Garo Hills.

Kumar said the victim was released the following day after ransom was paid to the gang.

A huge cache of arms, ammunition, comprising a carbine, three 7.6mm Chinese-made pistols, four magazines, two live grenades,and live ammunition, two mobile phones and ransom money of Rs 3,26,500 was recovered from the possession of the arrested persons.

Kumar said among the seven gang members, most were from surrendered militant groups, and also from the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA).
