On July 25, miscreants had also targeted a private residence let out to non-locals in the Them Mawbah area by hurling a petrol bomb and stones. Nobody was injured.

A day later, members of — the Hynniewtrep National Youth Federation — stopped the tourist taxis from Assam at Umtyngngar, about 25km from Shillong, from proceeding to popular tourist spots.

Between April and May, there have been at least eight acts of petrol bomb attacks on government offices and vehicles.
