The toll in the flood and landslides triggered by heavy rain in Meghalaya’s Garo Hills rose to 15 with five more deaths reported on Sunday.

The five casualties reported on Sunday included a mother-daughter duo who were buried alive in their home in a rain-induced landslide in the East Garo Hills district on Saturday night while a man died when an uprooted tree crashed into his car during a storm on Saturday night.

The death of a father-son duo, whose car was swept away while crossing a flooded road in Dimapara under
West Garo Hills on Friday evening, was also confirmed on Sunday.

On Saturday, the toll was ten in rain-induced flash floods and landslides, impacting all five Garo hill districts.

One of the heart-rending incidents coming out of the affected areas is the death of seven persons of a family who were buried alive in their home in South Garo Hills early Saturday.
