A meeting on plastic management, specially on prospects of using shredded plastic for road and highway construction, was held on Saturday at the Dibrugarh Municipal Board.
“Utilisation of plastic waste in road construction can significantly help in solving one of the biggest problems,” Dibrugarh deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha, who chaired the meeting, said.
He urged other departme-nts such as PWD (roads), PWD (national highways) and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) to co-me up with plans.
Stressing the need for proper training and awareness to people involved in plastic segregation and shredding, Jha appealed to the NHIDCL authorities to opt for a plan to provide local shredders proper training so that qualities of their products meet the standard for construction purpose.
The meeting was also attended by additional deputy commissioner Ranjit Konwar, assistant commissioner Jagdish Chelani, PWD officials, contractors, plastic segregators and shredders of the district.
In the beginning, executive engineer (in-charge), PWD (NH division), D. Nath, talked on use of shredded plastic waste in hot bitumen for road and highway construction.
