The CBI has summoned former Manipur Congress chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh to appear before the agency on Wednesday in connection with alleged embezzlement of Rs 332 crore development funds during his term.
The summons were issued days after the Congress had staked claim to form the government in Manipur where all four MLAs of the National People’s Party had withdrawn support to BJP chief minister Biren Singh.
The NPP MLAs on Tuesday flew to Guwahati and were slated to meet Union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday, said one of the legislators.
Assam BJP minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and NPP president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma were in Imphal on Tuesday to resolve the crisis faced by the BJP government. This was their second visit since Sunday.
An FIR had been lodged in the alleged scam in November 2019. Besides Okram Ibobi Singh, three retired bureaucrats were also booked.
