Man commits suicide after he fails to pay bank loans

A suicide note confessed that he took the step as he was not able to pay off his loans

Dhiren Kalita of Ranakuchi allegedly committed suicide on Friday after he failed to pay bank loans amounting to Rs 11 lakh.

A police source said according to the victim’s family, Kalita hanged himself in the wee hours.

A suicide note confessed that he took the step as he was not able to pay off his loans, claiming that one Dipankar Kalita had cheated him in the processing of a loan.

The police said Dipankar, allegedly a loan agent of a government bank in Nalbari, had processed a loan of Rs 11 lakh for Dhiren but duped Dhiren for Rs 7 lakh and given only Rs 4 lakh.

The police have detained Dipankar for questioning.

Some other employees of the bank are allegedly engaged in a loan scam.
