A full-grown male leopard, which has been creating terror for several years at Sasoni Tokoibeel in Dibrugarh district, was caged on Thursday night.

Last week, the forest department caged another leopard from the same locality.

According to residents of the area, the leopard has been creating terror for some several years. The animal would come at night and take away the livestock.

“We are very happy that the leopard has been caged. For several years it has been creating terror and we were afraid to go after dusk. We have spotted the leopard many times in our area. But this time the leopard was trapped,” Rubul Sonowal, a villager, said.

“For the past several years, this leopard has been creating terror in the area but we could not cage the animal. But this time we successfully caged it. After examination, we released the leopard at Jeypore forest,” said an forest official.

Recently, four persons were injured after a leopard attacked them at Sasoni in Naharkatia in Dibrugarh.

Two of them with serious injuries were taken to Assam Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Later, the forest department caged the leopard.

Man-animal conflict has been rising rapidly due to the shrinking of forest covers.

Four leopards were caged at Dikom tea estate in the past month.
