The Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR), a popular tourist destination in Assam, has seen a record surge in footfall and revenue in the 2023-24 financial year.
According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, Kaziranga received 3,27,493 tourists in the last fiscal year, of whom 3,13,574 were domestic tourists and 13,919 foreigners, helping generate a revenue of Rs 8,81,84,161.
The corresponding figures for the 2022-23 fiscal were 3,14,796 visitors and Rs 8,33,85,383 in revenue.
An official said the tourist inflow and revenue generation were the highest since the park’s inception in 1974. The park came was officially established in 1905.
Renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, rich biodiversity, and iconic inhabitants like the one-horned rhinoceros, the UNESCO World Heritage Park has “emerged” as a top-choice destination for families and wildlife enthusiasts, the statement said.
The 2021-22 had also been one of the best years for the park when it saw a footfall of 2.75 lakh and revenue collection od Rs 6 crore during the tourist season between October 2021 to May 2022.
The park sees on an average a tourist footfall of 1.8 lakh every year.
