Kalaguru music fest begins

There will be an open prize-money singing competition of various genres, including Rabha sangeet and modern songs to tap budding talents

The two-day Kalaguru Sangeet Mahotsav 2020 began on Thursday at Tangla HS playground in Tangla town of Udalguri district.

There will be an open prize-money singing competition of various genres, including Rabha sangeet and modern songs to tap budding talents.

Popular singer Zubeen Garg will release the music videos of two songs — Mur monore kalpanat and Maa mur maa — from Maa album on the occasion.

Cultural troupes from Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Jharkhand, representing indigenous communities, will also perform on the occasion.

One of the event managers said: “Every year, this music festival is hosted by Zubeen Garg and it is jointly organised under the banner of Kalaguru Artiste Foundation and Zubeen Garg Fan Club. Though it is basically aimed to pay homage to legendary Assamese poet, music composer and writer Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, it is an effort to highlight folk culture, music, food habits of the indigenous communities of the Northeast.”

According to schedule there will be a seminar on “Role of folk artiste and the vision of Kalaguru on formation of a greater Assamese society”.

The event will witness exhibitions, musical nights and food festivals.

A life-size statue of the Kalaguru is also being constructed at Chamuapara village near Tangla town.
