IIT Guwahati researchers have developed a point-of-care device — Glycemic Index (GI) sensor — that will “provide” real-time data for people with diabetes or those managing their blood sugar through diet.
The IITG in a statement on Thursday said the GI sensor can determine the GI of different food sources in real-time something which is crucial for diabetes management.
The sensor has been developed by researchers led by Dipankar Bandyopadhyay, department of chemical engineering, IIT. “The point-of-care-testing prototype developed by the IITG team can detect the Glycemic Index of common food sources in approximately 5 minutes,” the IIT said.
A POC device is used to get quick results while being with the patient.
