IIT Guwahati assistant professor Brijesh Kumar Rai, who is the bête noire of the administration for exposing alleged corruption at the institute, is all set to take up his fight against the administration via legal course after he got an anticipatory bail on Wednesday evening from the additional sessions court in Kamrup district.
Rai, who was asked to go on “a compulsory retirement” and “vacate his quarters” by January 31 by the IIT-G board of governor on grounds of alleged misconduct, in association with the Guwahati chapter of Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) has prepared a petition to challenge the IIT-G order.
The petition will also seek a stay on the IIT-G order to vacate his quarters.
Along with the two orders from IIT-G, an FIR was also lodged against Rai for his alleged role in intimidating an official from the institute for which he had got an interim anticipatory bail on January 9.
The IIT-G official in his FIR stated that Rai had issued threats to him in a letter which Rai had allegedly “signed and posted it”.
Speaking to The Telegraph on Thursday Rai’s advocated Sauradeep Dey said, on Wednesday during the hearing for the anticipatory bail a case diary from the police was produced at the sessions court and facts from Rai’s side was also cited during the hearing.
“The case diary from the police was produced but the forensic report is still to yet to come. The forensic report will verify whether the signature which was put in the letter is Rai’s or nor and whether it was forged. The next plan of action will be challenging the IIT-G order of ‘compulsory retirement’ and ‘vacating his quarters’ by January 31. We will be moving Gauhati High Court and we are hopeful that by Monday the mater will be listed before a judge at the court,” said Dey.
Dey added that Rai filed an FIR at North Guwahati police station on Wednesday on forgery of his signature in the letter against the IIT-G official.
“It was on January 3 that an FIR was a lodged against me for allegedly threatening an official in a letter which bears my alleged signature. I am well aware of the people behind the forged letter with the forged signature on it,” said Rai, who had filed multiple RTIs seeking answers for alleged corruption in the institute.
