A startup backed by IIT Guwahati has been acquired by Zemetric, a US-based leading provider of electric vehicle charging solutions.
EvyEnergy, co-founded by Tushar Bohra, Mohit Jain and Bhabani Mohapatra from the IIT Guwahati B.Tech batch of 2022, began as a typical dorm room startup in 2021. Now it has grown into a leading player in the emerging eMobility landscape of India, the premier institute said in a statement on Wednesday.
The software platform caters to public charging, fleet charging and destination charging with seamless payment options.
Zemetric’s acquisition of EvyEnergy grants it access to a market poised for exponential growth while incorporating proven software talent.
Harmeet Singh, founder-CEO of the US-based Zemetric, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome EvyEnergy into the Zemetric family. Their expertise aligns with our goal to accelerate the transition to clean transportation and expands our footprint in an enormous market primed for growth.”
In simple terms, the platform offers charging network companies a complete software stack to manage electric vehicle (EV) charging operations. This includes a mobile application that allows drivers to locate and initiate charging at stations, an IIT official said.
It provides a central management software for charging network companies to monitor and operate their charging stations in real-time. Public EV charging is fundamentally reliant on this type of software infrastructure.
The platform boasts nearly 3,000 charging ports on its ChargeConnect platform and mobile app, making it a preferred choice for charging point operators and mobility providers for convenient charging access, the IIT statement said.
Prof. Devendra Jalihal, director, IIT Guwahati, said; “We are immensely proud of the achievements of Tushar, Mohit and Bhabani, all IIT-G alumni and their innovative venture, EvyEnergy...”
He added, “The success of EvyEnergy underscores our commitment to equipping our students with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive technological advancements and contribute meaningfully to society via enabling future technology development. We congratulate them...and look forward to seeing more groundbreaking contributions from our talented community.”
Bohra, sharing his experience of co-founding EvyEnergy at IIT Guwahati, said: “We are profoundly grateful for these opportunities, which have been instrumental in our achievements throughout our journey. We are firmly committed to giving back and supporting our college in every possible way.”
