Aromica Tea from Assam is the first tea company to be taken for incubation by IIM Calcutta Innovation Park.

IIM Calcutta Innovation Park (IIMCIP) is a not-for-profit (Section 8) company established under the aegis of IIM Calcutta to promote innovation and entrepreneurship.

It promotes entrepreneurship and creates a nurturing ecosystem where fledgling enterprises with innovative ideas and solutions can flourish and promote innovation in research and business through industry-academia partnership.

“Aromica Tea from Assam is the first company in tea sector to be taken for incubation by IIM Calcutta Innovation Park,” Gaurav Kapoor head — new initiatives of IIMCIP told The Telegraph.

Ranjit Baruah of Aromica Tea said after the first round of pitching at IIMPCP, there was an interest of the unique blends of Aromica Tea and the health benefits it carries.

“They tasted the teas too during the pitching. I feel the taste and flavour and the uniqueness of the blends are based entirely on Assam Tea produced by our small tea growers. Our teas have an unique flavour and taste and value additions have been the key to enhance the intrinsic property and make it more market friendly,” Baruah said.

The company was formed less than two years back.

“The entire credit goes to our well wishers who have patronized our teas...and a big thank you to the small tea growers who have offered their fantastic teas to me,” he added.

The company has 26 blends till date ranging from mint green, saffron tea, blooming tea, happiness tea and others.

Baruah had worked in a leading tea company in Assam for two decades before finally starting his own tea company. He runs Just Tea — a tea cafe in the city.

The IIMCIP aims at creating a complete and comprehensive ecosystem to promote and nurture innovative enterprises.

“We will provide the company 360 degree help right from pitching to investors and capacity building,” an official from IIMCIP said adding the company has a different take on tea.

The park will provide seed funding to the company at a later date. “We will help it to become a successful company,” the official said.
