The Election Commission of India has fixed the next date of hearing of an application, seeking de-registration of the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) as a political party, on November 15.
The commission fixed the date after hearing the matter at its office in New Delhi following hearing on Thursday and Friday.
Activist Zeneisiile Ate Loucii had filed a complaint with the poll commission in December last year, accusing at least 13 NDPP members, including their top brass, of filing “false affidavits” when the party was formed last year. The ruling NDPP and Opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF) are engaged in a war of words on the issue.
In a release on Sunday, the NDPP said NPF legislator Yitachu was making comments as if he was a party to the matter. The NPF and the MLA have claimed that they were not party to the ongoing issue.
The NDPP accused Opposition leader of T.R. Zeliang and Yitachu of hobnobbing with the Congress leadership on the matter.
In a response on Monday, the NPF slammed the NDPP for their “snobbish, immature and hysterical press statement”.
