Assam chief minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday called the Bharat Jodo Yatra the “comedy of the century” and said Rahul Gandhi should try to integrate Pakistan and Bangladesh with India if he regretted the Partition.

“The Bharat Jodo Yatra is a Comedy of the Century! The Bharat that we live in today is resilient, robust & united. The only time India was divided was in 1947 because Congress agreed for it. Rahul Gandhi ji should go to Pakistan for ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ if they want unification,” tweeted Sarma, who spent two decades in the Congress before switching to the BJP in 2015.

The tweet was accompanied by a photograph of Jawaharlal Nehru, Lord Mountbatten, and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Sarma later said: “The Congress had in 1947 partitioned India into India and Pakistan.… Later, Bangladesh also came. If Rahul Gandhi thinks what happened during his great-grandfather Pandit Nehru’s time should not have happened... if he has any regrets, then Bharat Jodo now, in India’s territory, will be of no use. You try to unite Pakistan, try to unite Bangladesh and try for Akhand Bharat if you have regrets over Partition.”
