More than 500 guardians moved the management of a private school in Assam’s Nagaon district on Monday demanding capital punishment for the principal for allegedly abetting the suicide of a class X student.
The parents claimed that the boy was “forced” to commit suicide on Saturday after he was allegedly beaten up by the principal.
The student was found hanging on the fifth floor of the school building when classes were going on.
Nagaon superintendent of police Abhijit Goutam on Monday said investigation of the incident was ongoing. ‘The victim’s family claimed in the FIR that the boy was murdered. The school authority claimed that he committed suicide. We hope the investigation will bring out the truth.”
A police team, led by Goutam, visited the institution on Monday to question students and teachers present in the school at the time of the incident.
The victim’s family warned of an agitation if the police do not arrest the principal at the earliest. “He (the principal) beat my son to death and later hanged him to look like he committed suicide. We demand the administration to carry out a proper investigation,” said the victim’s father.
According to the police, the principal has been absconding since Saturday.
