Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania on Monday slammed Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary for blaming him for the Khairul Hoque killing.
“Who is stopping the police and the BTC administration from probing the Khairul Hoque killing incident? Stop blaming me for your vested interest. Make the evidences public if you have,” Sarania said in reply to Mohilary’s allegation.
Khairul Hoque, a Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) worker, was gunned down by unidentified persons at Bhutiachang in Udalguri district on Friday evening. Soon after the incident, BPF chief Mohilary held political rival Sarania responsible for the killing.
The BTC will go to the polls in April.
The Independent MP claimed that the people of the BTC areas, now Bodoland Territorial Region, were frustrated with Mohilary’s alleged politics of oppression as well as deprivation on all fronts.
“Mohilary cannot terrify the people of BTC anymore with guns and pistols. The people of BTC will bid farewell to Mohilary in the April election. The Gana Suraksha Party has become a suitable alternative to defeat Mohilary’s BPF,” Sarania added.
The Gana Suraksha Party, a regional political party, has projected Sarania as the next BTC chief. Party general secretary Abdul Badsha said they will get registration from the Election Commission well ahead of the election.
Sarania alleged, “The BPF hatched a conspiracy to kill its own party worker Hoque. The objective was to earn public sentiment and emotions in favour of the BPF. However, the people of the BTC have realised the conspiracy and they will give the BPF a lesson in the ensuing election.”
Badsha said, “We have received over 200 applications from across the BTC area for candidature.”
Sarania said the Gana Suraksha Party has become a hope for over 70 per cent non-Bodo communities in the BTC.
“We will ensure equal land, job and political rights for the entire population of the BTC irrespective of the Bodos and the non-Bodos,” Sarania said, adding that the party would pitch candidature in all the 40 seats of the council.
