A 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in Assam on Thursday evening by three youths while she was returning from her tuition, prompting massive protests and shutdown in Dhing town of Nagaon district on Friday.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma rushed the police chief and a cabinet minister to the spot to take stock of the situation while promising “swift action against the monsters”.
Police said the victim, found lying by the side of a road in a semiconscious condition and rushed to the Nagaon Medical College and Hospital around 6.30pm, told them she was raped by three persons, of whom one had been arrested while two were still absconding.
The suspected trio had accosted the Class X student while she was returning from tuition and took her to a secluded place around 5.30pm. They left her by the side of a road before a passer-by located her.
