The forest range office in Nalbari was allegedly vandalised by a mob on Sunday morning after the officials seized a tractor loaded with illegally-collected sand.

The mob allegedly entered the forest office demanding immediate release of the vehicle.

Soon after, they started to vandalise the office around 10am.

The SP added after lodging an FIR against unknown persons the police initiated a search operation, but nobody had been arrested so far.

She said the forest department had also told her that the tractor was forcefully taken away from the forest office premises as there was no senior official.

A forest source said earlier the tractor was seized by the forest ranger after he found that the vehicle was loaded with huge amount of sand without any valid documentation.

After the tractor was brought to the forest office, senior officials went out for patrol.

While they were out, a group allegedly linked with the sand mafia attacked the office.

A police investigation is on.

The prime accused has been identified as driver of the tractor Azizur Haque.
