Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga flags off the first IndiGo flight on Aizawl-Guwahati-Agartala sector from the state’s Lengpui airport on Saturday.

This is the third flight service from the state, a year after Jet Airways withdrew operations from here on February 10 last year. Mizoram is the sixth northeastern state where IndiGo has launched operations.

With the launch, Mizoram will have its first air link with Agartala.

Zoramthanga expressed happiness at the additional flight and hoped that the flight service would benefit the people. “What makes me more happy about the flight operation is that Mizoram will now have air link with its neighbour Tripura for the first time in history,” he said.

Zoramthanga said the state government has been making massive efforts to upgrade Lengpui airport.

He hoped for direct air links between Aizawl and other cities of the country.

According to IndiGo Airlines vice-president Vijay Matta, Aizawl is the sixth city in the Northeast where IndiGo has launched operations and the 62nd domestic destination and 85th international destination of the airlines. He said the flight service for the Aizawl-Calcutta-Delhi route will also be launched.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by MLAs and officials, including Airports Authority of India (AAI) regional executive director Sanjeev Jindal.

IndiGo will operate an ATR on the Aizawl-Guwahati-Agartala sector on a daily basis.

According to an official, fares have been fixed at Rs 2,248 for Guwahati to Aizawl, Rs 3,632 for Aizawl-Guwahati and Rs 1,251 for Agartala-Aizawl.
