A Guwahati-based company, Mahalaxmi Group, has submitted an expression of interest to the liquidator for revival of Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC).

Sources said a meeting of the stakeholders’ consultation committee was held in Calcutta on Tuesday in which the company submitted its proposal to HPC’s liquidator. The company said it would go ahead with the revival process but would not take the liability of the employees’ dues, which the government should pay. Representatives of the Centre were invited but were not present, sources said.
