Adviser to the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) Akhil Gogoi on Wednesday said they, along with 69 other allied organisations, would bar the entry of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah and Union ministers from the ruling BJP, to Assam to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019.
“By betraying and playing with sentiments of people of Assam, they cannot come here for campaigning. The KMSS and 69 other allied organisations will not allow them to come to Assam and hold public election meetings here. The protests across the state against the bill have made the people’s mandate clear that they do not want this party anymore,” Akhil said. He was addressing a joint news conference at the KMSS headquarters here.
He added that BJP leaders of Assam would not be allowed to hold any meeting in the state. “We will also disrupt meetings, public rallies or any other programme where BJP leaders of Assam participate and hoist black flags on the stage,” Akhil said.
On Wednesday, AASU members waved black flags against state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass in Nagaon where he went to attend a meeting. Akhil said the KMSS would adopt “undemocratic means of protest” if the bill is passed in Parliament.
“We will start undemocratic means of protest. The Centre is only testing our patience. The protests will go on until the bill is pulled down and if not, we will start the demand for a sovereign Assam,” he said.
