The Election Commission on Wednesday ordered repolling in one polling station of Mizoram, which went to the polls on Tuesday, on November 10.

Though no reason was cited in the EC letter to the state CEO, an official familiar with the development said repolling was necessitated due to “mix-up of mock votes and actual votes in the EVM”. The repoll will be held from 7am to 4pm.

The poll panel in a letter to the state CEO said the decision to go for repoll in 13-Muallunggthu polling station under the Aizawl South III (ST) constituency, currently held by the ruling MNF, on the basis of a report by the returning officer.

“Repolling is ordered because the mock votes were not cleared. This was detected during post-poll scrutiny on Wednesday and reported to the ECI which ordered repolling,” the official said.

Polling was peaceful on Tuesday in the 1,276 polling stations in 11 districts, registering a turnout of 80.43 per cent. Polling continued till 11.50 pm in one of the stations because of the replacement of EVM, an official said.
