The Kohima district task force carried out its fourth checking and confiscation exercise of single-use plastic in Kohima on Friday.
The task force has been conducting checking and confiscation exercise at regular intervals to enforce the ban on single-use plastic.
The team, divided into two groups and aided by various NGOs and government departments, visited all shops in and around Kohima town on Friday to curb the use and sale of all single-use plastic, including polypropylene bags.
A number of shopkeepers were caught using banned plastic bags and selling water bottles weighing less than one litre. The erring shopkeepers were fined and the banned products confiscated. The seized items will be disposed of later by the Kohima Municipal Council.
The district administration thanked the various public organisations, municipal council and government departments for their cooperation and participation.
Counselling session
The Konyak Union’s committee on drug abuse, mitigation and prevention has initiated a project in Nagaland’s Mon district to help women drug users to recover and reintegrate into society.
The programme has been started under the banner of Monghüm (hop in Konyak dialect). The committee conducted counselling for drug users in Mon town on Thursday on the theme, Women in Recovery. The resource person was Rev. Ellen Konyak Jamir, associate professor of pastoral counselling and psychotherapy, Oriental Theological Seminary, Dimapur.
The session, held at Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum conference hall, was attended by 12 drug users.
The project has been conceptualised to help women drug users in line with the Konyak civil society declaration of “war on drugs”.
