The construction of the broad-gauge railway line between Mizoram border town Bairabi and Sairang near Aizawl is scheduled to be completed by 2022, official sources said on Monday.
The sources said Railway Board chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav called on Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga at his office on Monday and they discussed the ongoing railway projects in the state.
Yadav also inspected the ongoing construction of the 51.38km Bairang-Sairang broad-gauge railway line on Sunday. The construction of the railway line had begun in 2015.
The stretch will comprise 32 underground tunnels, which are altogether 12.6km long, and 16 cut and cover tunnels.
The railway line will also cover 184 bridges, including 55 major bridges, and four stations at Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang and Sairang.
The total cost of the project is Rs 5,021.45 crore, of which Rs 3,265.03 crore was spent till January this year.
Altogether 88 per cent of cutting and 75 per cent lining of tunnels have been completed so far.
