Amidst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown, sanitisation is one of the most important things to keep oneself safe from the virus but this particular safety measure is missing at Raha toll gate in Nagaon.

Several locals have been complaining about the toll plaza employees of allegedly not using sanitisers while taking money or returning the money at the toll. This particular issue seems to be putting the commuters as well as the employees at risk of being infected.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Saurabh Gupta, ASP, Nagaon, said the sanitisers should be there but the matter will be looked into.

Circle officer Priyanka Bonia said she had been checking the toll gate regularly and had found them maintaining the norms but she was not sure if the same was being continued.

Bonia said she will inquire into the entire issue and will check at the footages of the toll gate.

Haren Mahanta, in-charge of the toll plaza, said he personally supplies sanitisers to the employees and each morning the entire plaza is sanitised and thoroughly cleaned but the allegations of the employees not using proper sanitisation will have to be checked.

Mahanta said he will check all the CCTV footages and he will take strict actions against the persons who are found to be not following the norms.

“If needed, we will also suspend the persons found not using sanitisers while collecting or returning money,” he added.

A local from the Raha area alleged that he has noticed that apart from the employees not using sanitisers, some were even seen without gloves.

“Though the employees of the toll gate wear face masks still, the commuters are at risk due to the lack of sanitisers on the spot,” he said.

He said this violation is mostly seen by the person who collects the money from the ticketing booth of the toll plaza.

The Raha toll gate located in Nagaon district is almost 110km from Guwahati and is among the only functioning toll gate in central Assam.

Vehicle travelling to Upper Assam or even Nagaon town will have to cross the toll gate if they use National Highway 37.
