The Tripura health department on Saturday traced 10 people on the outskirts of the state capital who had attended the Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi last month.

State nodal officer for coronavirus Dr Deep Kumar Debbarma told reporters here, “The health department and civil administration of Tripura today traced 10 persons, who had attended the Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi. They are residents of Mumbai and, after attending the Delhi event, had come here on March 18 to meet their relatives.”

Debbarma said they have sent all the 10 along with their six relatives living here to a quarantine facility. Samples have been collected and reports are awaited, he added.

Previously, the department had traced about 50 persons from Tripura who had attended the event.

When asked about the two Covid-19-positive persons from Tripura who are now at Bikaner in Rajasthan, Debbarma said they were stable. “They are in quarantine in Bikaner Government Medical College. Their reports were positive but they are now stable. Health department officials have visited their house at Boxanagar in Sepahijala district in Tripura to collect more information. However, they have not returned to the state after March 5. We have kept their family members under observation,” he said.

Altogether 4,782 persons with travel history are under home quarantine and 128 in facility quarantine in Tripura while 4,954 travellers have already completed the 14-day observation period. The health department has so far tested 191 samples, all which were found to be negative.

State health secretary Dr Debasish Basu, who attended the media conference, said 422 persons from Tripura were stranded across the country during the nationwide lockdown to contain coronavirus. “We are helping those who went for medical treatment and tourism as well as students stranded in other states. Our government will provide Rs 118 per day for food to and bear the cost of accommodation of those living in Tripura Bhawans. Those staying outside Tripura Bhawans will be sent Rs 1,000 per person for accommodation and Rs 150 for food. We are receiving many distress calls from those stranded outside the state and, after verifying these calls, we are helping them.”

Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport terminal manager S. Haokip Jempu said IndiGo operated its first cargo flight to Agartala from Calcutta via Imphal on Saturday. The flight landed at MBB Airport in the afternoon, bringing a consignment of 109 packets/cartons of essential medical supplies weighing 1,551kg. It departed for Calcutta with 22 packets of goods weighing 76kg and 5kg of post-office mails. This was the fourth cargo flight to land in Agartala.
