Around 400 citizens who have returned to Meghalaya from other parts of the country were found to have violated self-quarantine protocols.

Deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday said a few days ago, these 400 citizens belonging to areas under the Shillong agglomeration were found to have violated the self-quarantine protocols by venturing out, which has been strictly prohibited.

Through the use of technology, health officials were able to monitor the movement of those who should be undergoing quarantine.

However, Tynsong said officials have visited the homes of these violators to caution them from venturing out as they were required to observe the protocols.

He appealed to all concerned to compulsorily observe the quarantine period to avoid any unwarranted situation.

He said for those coming from states within the Northeast, the home quarantine period was 14 days.

But for those who have arrived from other states, apart from the 14 days, they will have to undertake another 14 days of self-observation.

The state government has classified those who have come from other parts of the country, apart from the Northeast, as individuals who have arrived from “red zone” areas.

Tynsong said till Friday, 4,681 citizens from across the country have arrived. He said while there are those who have undertaken home quarantine, there are also many who are under community quarantine.

Community quarantine centres have been set up by localities/villages, especially to help those who do not have sufficient space in their residences to undergo quarantine.

Tynsong added that till date, 2,712 samples have been collected for testing, of which, 2,597 have tested negative, while the results of 102 samples were awaited.

Meghalaya has recorded 13 positive cases so far, of which, 11 have fully recovered while there is one active case.

The first Covid-19 patient had passed away last month just two days after he tested positive.

Examinations: Education minister Lahkmen Rymbui said on Friday that the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) will conduct the pending papers of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examination on June 8, 9, 10.

He said the examination on mathematics, physical education and statistics will be held on the above dates.

The examinations were scheduled to be over in March, but the lockdown had forced the board to postpone them.
