The Kamrup (metro) district administration on Thursday withdrew its containment zone order from luxury apartment complex Spanish Garden and areas surrounding it after no fresh Covid 19 cases were detected in the area, leaving the residents relieved but cautious.

The district administration on April 4 barred the entry and exit of any person or vehicle from Spanish Garden after the first positive case of Covid-19 was detected here.

“As no Covid-19 positive case has been detected since the declaration of Spanish Garden Apartment and its periphery as a containment zone, according to guidelines received from the Indian Council of Medical Research, the containment zone is no longer effective and the restrictions that were so imposed, have been withdrawn from April 30,” an order by the administration said.

The order added, “However, the restrictions imposed in connection with the lockdown will remain in force till further notification from the government of India is issued from the ministry of home affairs.”

There are 150 flats in the complex in which a businessman, who tested positive for novel coronavirus, lives with his family.

He returned from Delhi on March 1 but is the first of the 25 positive cases in Assam with no link to the Nizamuddin congregation.

So far, 111 people, with whom he came into contact with, have been quarantined to check the spread of the virus.

A resident of the complex speaking on the order removal, said they were happy to be free from the containment but even though the risk has been eliminated to “some extent”, the residents will still take utmost care to prevent the virus infection or exposure.
