The Tripura government has decided to run three trains from the state to send back stranded migrant labourers to their states.
Law minister Ratan Lal Nath said the first train will depart on May 17 from Jirania railway station near here for Patna, the capital city of Bihar, carrying around 1,600 migrant labourers who were working in brick kilns across the state. The arrival station, however, might change, he added.
The second train will depart on May 19 from Belonia railway station in South district to Bihar with more than 1,600 migrant workers.
The government has also decided to run a train from Agartala to Uttar Pradesh on May 20 but the number of the passengers have not yet been decided upon, he said.
“More than 2,000 citizens of Tripura started their train journey from Bangalore in Karnataka and Chennai in Tamil Nadu today (Friday). We have also asked the Bengal government to provide us three trains to bring back persons from Tripura stranded in that state. We are yet to receive any reply from them. A train bringing back our persons will also start from Mumbai in Maharashtra soon. The date is likely to be May 16 or 17. It has not been fixed yet,” Nath said.
