The Assam Olympic Association on Monday launched a video of a motivational song, We Shall Overcome, involving at least 10 sportspersons of the state in honour of those waging a war against Covid-19 pandemic in the state.

The three-minute video, featuring Olympian Shiva Thapa, Olympic qualifier Lovlina Borgohain, youth world champion boxer Ankushita Boro, Asian Games gold medalist Hima Das, world junior champion shooter Hriday Hazarika, shuttler Ashmita Chaliha and others, was released officially by AOA president and chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, flanked by Thapa and promising swimmer Shivangi Sarma, at his official residence here.

“I believe the appeal in the video will motivate everybody to fight with sincere dedication against coronavirus and the state of Assam will definitely come victorious against the pandemic,” Sonowal said.

Sonowal thanked AOA general secretary Lakhya Konwar for taking the initiative to instil a sense of positivity in the minds of the athletes.

In the audio-visual tribute, produced by AOA media committee chairman Rajib Prakash Baruah, noted singers Sangita Kakati, Anirban Das and Anoushka Baruah have lent their voices.

The star sportspersons are lip syncing while doing workouts and skill training at their respective homes.

Besides, the video also features clips of the state government’s war against corona.

Some of the other sportspersons to feature in the video are international taekwondo player Rodali Baruah, lawn bowls player Tania Choudhury, promising gymnast Upasha Talukdar and Shivangi Sarma.
