The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has sealed Samsung Smart Plaza located near Rajdhani Masjid for allegedly selling stale groceries and poultry products.
The GMC acted after receiving public complaints with photo evidence and conducted raids on the premises on Monday morning.
GMC officials said the plaza authorities were found disposing of stale fish and meat near Barak Residency apartment.
“We received multiple complaints against the electronics outlet. An unauthorised price list was also kept hanging outside it. Locals alleged that the outlet owners were selling stale goods,” GMC commissioner Devajyoti Hazarika said.
“The plaza was selling and storing stale groceries illegally and, moreover, the electronic shop was running without a trade licence,” an official said.
The drive was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Hazarika.
GMC additional commissioner Dwijen Singh, Dispur police personnel and reporters were present during the drive.
The GMC has been conducting drives from Saturday in multiple places like Supermarket, Hengerabari, Hatigaon and VIP areas in the city. The offenders were found flouting social-distancing norms and were found selling products without hanging up proper price lists.
The Kamrup (metro) district administration has also formed a task force which will monitor unauthorised sale of meat, fish and vegetables in the city.
The task will take immediate action against persons found selling such products illegally or at a much higher price.
